⊕ Roger Castle's Bio
Born in Southern England, Coach Roger Castle was fortunate to learn from some of the best English coaches of his era. As a youth player, he played under Jim Ryan, Academy Director at Manchester United who has produced many great players.
Roger began coaching in Mission Viejo with the Mission Viejo Soccer Club at at time when club soccer was just taking hold in Orange County. He later moved to the Irvine Strikers. He was appointed Head & Varsity Coach at Mission Viejo High School, and built the program into a top-ranked school within five years. He has been President of San Clemente Soccer Club for the past several years, and is currently the president of SC Athletic. Roger has a strong network of College and USSF connections to assist players moving forward beyond Club and High School soccer. He has developed youth players and assisted in placements to Indiana, UCI, UCSB, USF, Sonoma State, Vanguard University, West Point, St. Mary's, and CS Northridge. Roger Castle, Jr. has a strong background in playing and coaching, both in Southern California and in England. He began his career as a youth player at Mission Viejo Soccer Club. His High School experience was at RSM High School. Upon graduation, he was accepted into the PACE program at the Dover Football Club in England. While there, he earned his Levels 1 & 2 Coaching Badges.
Roger Jr. is truly a "players' coach." He forges strong relationships with his players and is always a advocate for their development and advancement. Based upon his own experiences in youth and Club soccer, he has a good understanding of the challenges facing today's youth soccer players, and can use that to good advantage when coaching. Roger Jr. has recently accepted a position at Saddleback Valley Soccer Association as Director of Coaching. ⊕ Paul Wheatley's Bio
Paul Wheatley's coaching background includes Club and High School experience both in England and in the United States. He holds a BSC Honors degree in Physical Education from Sheffield Hallam University where he also played at the Division 1 level for three years.
After University, Paul played semi-professional soccer in England for several different clubs. In 2005 he relocated to California where, among other experiences, he spent 6 years Directing and Coaching for UK International soccer camps. Jim McCarthy is a seasoned coach with over 30 years experience coaching youth soccer association and club teams. As a coach, he is able to reference his own 15 years of playing experience on college and top flight amateur teams, as well as earlier experience on high school and youth soccer teams.

⊕ Leon Zavalkov's Bio
Leon Zavalkov 's playing experience began in Odessa, Ukraine where he played youth soccer at the Chernomorets Youth Soccer Academy. He progressed in 1985 to the Chernomorets Premiere Division reserve team, and in 1990 came to the United States where he joined the Hewlett-Lawrence Soccer Club in New York.
Leon began coaching in Orange County for the OC Kings where he was the Boys U9 Coach from 2006-2007, and Boys U13 Coach from 2008-2009. In 2009 he moved to the San Clemente United Soccer Club where he continued to coach older boys. Leon's love of the game and of coaching is apparent in his coaching style. He brings his international playing and coaching experience to the field; he loves to scrimmage along with the boys where he can give on-the-spot training and advice. Leon is very straigthforward with high expectations for his players, but earns their respect through his dedication and passion. ⊕ Dan Harrison's Bio
Dan Harrison recently moved to California from London, England, and brought with him some excellent coaching and playing experience. He began playing soccer in his native England. During his time at the University of Greenwich, he played 3 years of competitive soccer in which he was a member of the first team. At University, he received his BSC Honors in Sports Science, with Professonal Football Coaching emphasis.
After University, Dan coached in Arsenal Footbal Club's youth system, advanced players. In the US, he coached and directed camps for UK International for 4 years and later moved to SC United Soccer Club where he coached in the boys' program. Coaching Background: Credentials and Accomplishments:

⊕ Gordon Dickie's Bio
Gordon Dickie comes from professional player stock: His father and uncle were both professionals in the English and Scottish leagues. His own playing career began with several amateur clubs in the United Kingdom and Canada. He moved on to train with professional clubs in the UK, notably Crystal Palace, a First Division Club, under Steve Kember, Head Coach. Later he trained with the Vancouver Whitecaps in Canada, who were NASL Champions under Bob McNab, Head Coach, and then played for the Vancouver Internationals.
As a coach, Gordon believes there is no training substitute for actual game time which, along with a passion for the game and skilled coaching, will allow any player to advance to his or her goals. He is a strong supporter of the Coerver method of training which provides individual skills training coupled with short-sided games. Last, but not least, he believes players should be having fun while playing "the Beautiful Game." Credentials & Accomplishments: Personal Details: Gordon still plays recreational soccer. He has played in several charity matches with other ex-pros such as Bruce Grobbelar, Carl Valentine, John Craven, Willie Johnson, Steve Kember, Bob McNab, and Mel Blyth. ⊕ Alexis Ubillus' Bio
Alexis Ubillus is a native of Lima, Peru where he began playing soccer as a youth. His professional soccer career spans 15 years. He played midfield for a number of footbal clubs in Peru including Universitario, FBC Melgar and Alianza Lima. His international career includes 11 apperances for the senior Peru National Team from 1994 - 2001. In 1995 he played Copa America with the Peruvian National Squad.
In 2007, Alexis joined Atlanta FC, a National Premier Soccer League club in the United States, which made it to the National Cup Finals in 2007. After retirement from professional play, Alexis began his coaching career with Atlanta FC. He joins the SC Athletic Coaching Staff in spring 2011. Credentials & Accomplishments: |
⊕ James Turner's Bio
James Turner is the skills coach for SC Athletic. He is also currently a Midfielder/Defender on the UCI Men's Soccer Team, and a coach at Mission Viejo High School.
James grew up in Mission Viejo, CA and his playing experience includes youth, Club and High School Soccer. He has played for three local clubs and was team captain at two of those. He won the National Cup with another team, Barcelona FC. At Mission Viejo High School, James was honored for both his athletics and academics. He received the Diablo of the Year Award 2007, Athletic Scholar MVHS 2005-2006, and Spirit of the Diablos Award for academics from 2004-2006. He was Team Captain at MVHS from 2006-2008. ⊕ Brandon Dela Cruz' Bio
Brandon Dela Cruz is the Assistant JV Coach at MVHS and a former MVHS Student and Soccer Player. Duiring his career at MVHS he was named Offensive MVP; he scored 20 goals in his senior season and led his team to the South Coast League championship. Brandon was named First Team All-South Coast League, All-County selection, Team Captain during the 2005-2006 season, and Scholar Athlete from 2002-2006.
During his Club career, Brandon played for the Pateadores and was part of the Pateadores' first National Championship team in 2005. After MVHS, Brandon attended Sonoma State University where he continued playing soccer. He was part of 2 conference championships (2008, 2010), participated in NCAA tournaments 2007-2010, and won the NCAA regional Championship 2007. He was Team Captain in 2010 and graduated with a BA in Communication Studies: Film Production. Brandon followed University with time in Europe where he trained at Heracles in Germany and played soccer against Quick VC, HVV, Weslandia, Oranjuit, Ado Den Haag, and Ajax in Holland. |
